Patient Care Services
Kindred Hospitals use a multidisciplinary team approach to care that helps our patients return to the highest quality of life possible. Our areas of patient care services include:
Advanced Nutrition
When illness or surgery adversely affects a patient’s stomach or digestive system, we administer medication and nutrition through a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) or a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) until the patient recovers.
Brain Injury
Brain injuries can be as sudden as they are devastating. Our interdisciplinary approach to caring for patients with brain injuries includes all aspects of rehabilitation and recovery.
Diagnostic Imaging
Skilled and certified technicians operate our imaging equipment, and we make every effort to perform the testing in as prompt and as convenient a manner as possible.
Dialysis
Our interdisciplinary team of dialysis specialists includes physicians, nurses, technicians and dietitians who strive to help you meet the challenges of dialysis with comfort and dignity, and continue to live a full, active life.
Direct Admission
For your convenience, our hospital accepts direct admissions from an Extended Care Facility or Skilled Nursing Center.
Endoscopy
An endoscope is a flexible, lighted tube that, when inserted into the digestive system, transmits images of the inside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, allowing the physician to carefully examine the lining of these organs. Our endoscopy team works to make you as comfortable as possible before, during and after the procedure.
Geriatric Services
Our interdisciplinary team of geriatric specialists includes physicians, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians and mental-health professionals. Their objective is to help our senior patients live life to its fullest.
Pain Management
We feature a variety of treatments designed to ease chronic pain conditions that may result from an accident, infection or sprain.
Palliative Care
Palliative care is designed for patients with active, advanced disease and a short life expectancy. The focus of care is to prevent or relieve symptoms and to do everything possible to improve the patient’s quality of life.
Wound Management
Our hospital features state-of-the-art care for chronic wounds – comprehensive care that may be delivered on an in- or outpatient basis by an interdisciplinary team that addresses nursing, dietary and rehabilitation treatment regimes.
Physicians
Kindred Hospital Ontario has a complete medical staff of more than 200 physicians representing most specialties. If the incoming patient or referring facility has no physician preference and the current attending physician does not wish to continue on the case, we will assign a physician to ease the transfer process. Physician coverage is provided 24 hours a day.
Nursing
Nursing services are provided around the clock to meet each patient’s unique needs. Through the Department of Nursing, care plans are created in conjunction with physicians, therapists and specialists in other disciplines.
Respiratory Therapists
Under the direction of the medical staff, our team of respiratory therapists evaluates, treats and manages patients with cardiopulmonary problems. They also provide preventive care.
Radiology
Using advanced equipment, the radiology staff performs a variety of X-rays and diagnostic services that play an important role in diagnosing many illnesses.
Surgical Services
Surgical services are available for patients around the clock. If necessary, for some specialty procedures, patients may be transferred to another facility.
Laboratory
Operating under the direction of a physician, the laboratory is responsible for conducting any tests that are ordered. Our advanced equipment performs tests accurately and quickly, with results available on the same day whenever possible.
Pharmacy
An integral part of the patient care team is our staff of licensed pharmacists. They prepare medications and provide special dietary supplements necessary for proper nutrition.
Food Services and Nutrition Support
The goal of our dietitian is to strive to meet your nutritional needs and prepare diets as ordered by your physician. The dietitian also performs periodic nutritional assessments and monitors your nutrition plan. Please make the dietitian aware of your food preferences and any food allergies you may have.
Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation services are composed of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Each of these specialized services provides comprehensive acute care to patients with brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurologic and medical conditions.
Occupational Therapy
The work of the occupational therapist helps promote independence in daily living skills such as feeding, bathing, dressing and grooming. The goal we strive toward is to increase your strength, endurance and coordination.
Speech Therapy
When required, a licensed speech and language pathologist provides therapy to improve your speaking and swallowing skills as much as possible.
Social Services
A wide range of social services – including counseling, discharge planning, referrals to community agencies and securing medical equipment for home use – is provided. Family members are also invited to take part in counseling.
Chaplain Services
There are chaplains on standby to assist you and your family with any needs or concerns. Your minister is also welcome to visit at any time.
